Tbilisi International Student Theatre Festival

"Tbilisi International Student Theatre Festival" was founded in 2022. The idea of its establishment belongs to young Georgian director Georgi Kljain, a graduate of Shota Rustaveli State University of Theatre and Cinema of Georgia. Together with him, young colleagues gathered around the festival and the festival was held for the first time in June 2023. The festival is an open platform, where hundreds of students from local and foreign art higher education institutions (mainly theatre) come together and present the works created during the educational process. This is a festival where students will learn completely new creative skills, get to know future colleagues in Georgia and beyond its borders, and have more prospects for realising their creativity.

Goal of the festival: Increase professional motivation in students and encourage them; Explain importance of cooperation to the students; Create a perspective for future joint projects; Promote works of young theatre performers; discover new faces and reveal new talents Tbilisi International Student Theater Festival will unite hundreds of students and create such an open platform that will help them acquire new perspectives and gain international experience.

The festival in its essence includes: Showing student performances; Masterclasses with leading specialists in the field; Workshops; Presentations and etc.

At the festival there are NO restrictions regarding genre, form of expression, direction and etc. Although, Tbilisi International Student Theatre Festival is a non-commercial festival, it has a festival jury (consisting of both students and professionals). The festival is organised by the students of the drama Faculty. Students are supervised by tutors and staff. The festival jury selects and awards students in various categories: Grand-prix Best Directing work; Best Actor; Best Actress; Best Scenography; Stage musician/music; Student jury prize; and other special nominations.

The second edition of the Tbilisi International Student Theatre Festival will take place from 9 to 16 May 2024 across the theatre stages in Tbilisi. Duration of the festival is 8 days. The festival aims to provide a place where students, teachers and others involved with the theatre can meet to present and discuss their work and methods. We would like to enlarge the cooperation of schools and develop friendly relationships.
