س /SI:N/ VIDEO ART AND PERFORMANCE BIENNAL

19 Jul 2022 - 26 Oct 2022
Ramallah,

/si:n/, the mathematic sign to express the unknown, X in French and in English and a nice letter in Arabic. The spectator see it as an arabic letter but in phonetic it covers two meanings in English: scene and seen (to see). The name /si:n/ bears in itself the will of the festival to be a space of encounters between cultures.

Curated and coordinated by the A. M. Qattan Foundation (Ramallah) and Les Instants Vidéo Numériques et Poétiques (Marseille), the festival partners with 7 cultural institutions: Magazine 28 and the French Institute in Gaza, Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art (Jerusalem), Dar Al Sabbagh Diaspora Studies and Research Centre and Dar Yusuf Nasri Jacir for Art and Research (Bethlehem), Tishreen (Qulunsuwa), Ramallah Municipality.

For its seventh edition in 2022, /si:n/ will be insurgent! Video art and performance shake, connect, hijack, intertwined media streams, open new perspectives.

The video art and performance works done by international, Arab and Palestinian artists will be shown in 5 Palestinian cities: Ramallah, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Qulunsuwa and Gaza in July. In November, a Palestinian video art program will travel to Marseille to be presented during the 35 edition of the Festival Les Instants Vidéo.

/si:n/ festival was established in 2009, first event of its kind to be organised in Palestine, by a group of cultural and art institutions. Its goal is to create spaces for video art and performance exhibits and encourage new forms of vision and interaction. It seeks to challenge geographical, political and financial barriers and expand the festival’s geographical scope and public outreach to areas across Palestine. Partner institutions believe that Palestinian society should strive to be part of international dialogue through artistic engagement. It is now part of Palestinian art and cultural life.
