The Cyprus International Film Festival - Golden Aphrodite CYIFF proudly announces its collaboration with artist Alexis Chaviaras, who has created the poster design, graphics, and TV Spot editing. Additionally, we are excited to feature footage from the short film "Liminality," directed by Jennifer Akalina Petuch & Annali Rose, USA, alumni of CYIFF.
We are pleased to announce the films selected in the categories of Golden Aphrodite First Feature and the Veterans Feature as part of the 18th edition of the Cyprus International Film Festival.
To mention just a few:
Julie Joohee Jeon is a film composer who has worked on renowned films based in South Korea and Happen to Happen marks Julie’s directorial debut. Growing up in Vancouver, Canada as a Korean-Canadian, Julie has always been passionate about storytelling through the power of music and film. Julie’s first feature is complemented by an array of accomplished first feature films in the Golden Aphrodite category. The excitements and troubles of childhood and adolescence run through the selected films. Based on the true story of filmmaker Sophia Silver’s female friendship, Over/Under was described by IMDB as a ‘modest yet assured debut’ and by The Hollywood Reporter as ‘a tender reflection on tween friendship’. The films have already garnered attention and acclaim on the festival circuit. Back to the South was screened at this year’s 71st San Sebastián International Film Festival in September 2023 and Goodbye Julia was awarded the Prix de la Liberté (Freedom Award) at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.Turning to the Veterans Feature category, it goes without saying that the films will spark the imagination but be prepared to enter the world of fairytales too, in Ivo Macharacek’s tale of two kingdoms Secrets of An Old Gun 2, and Artykpai Suyundukov’s Shambala. Explorations of familial bonds are sure to prompt an emotional tear. Zuzana Piussi brings her track record as a documentarian to her feature-length fiction debut, The Unbalanced. The Golden Aphrodite First Feature and the Veterans Feature films are listed below – come and experience all that CYIFF has to offer!Audiences can look forward to an unforgettable cinematic journey, surrounded by the fresh look of the new directors, the beauty of Cyprus and the precise artistry of global cinema.
