40 Dance Week Festival
Dance Week Festival (Tjedan suvremenog plesa) is Croatia's primary international festival of contemporary dance entering its 40th edition in 2023. The Festival is produced by the not for profit association Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance (Hrvatski institut za pokret i ples/HIPP) , pioneering initiatives in support of development of contemporary dance in Croatia through also engaging in international collaboration and networks. The Festival has presented close to 1000 works of internationally acclaimed choreographers, and has supported the development of several generations of Croatian dance makers, as well as supporting dissemination of contemporary dance initiatives across Croatia. the Festival with HIPP as the producing arm has contributed to raising awareness for Croatian dance internationally, as well spearheaded the initiative for the development of the first purpose built facility for dance in Croatia: Zagreb Dance Centre which opened doors in 2009. The Festival has, through its programming, advocated for dance ability, diversity of expressions as well as a more equitable and healthier society overall, asserting the power of dance to transform and and its positive impact on society as such. The 40th edition continues to present works that inspire and initiate reflection on sustainability including careers in dance.
