Aflam, Rencontres internationales de cinéma
Aflam is a Marseille-based organization. Since its birth in 2000, it has been supporting the diversity of Arab cultures through the works of filmmakers from the Maghreb, the Middle East, and the Arab Diaspora, thus fostering a better understanding of the Arab world in its current social and political contexts in Europe.
Working in partnership with local educational, social and cultural structures and with the backing of its members, Aflam preserves Arab cinema heritage, supports emerging filmmakers and promotes recent Arab films.
« Les Rencontres d’Aflam » (formerly known as « Les Rencontres Internationales des Cinémas Arabes» -The International Encounters around Arab Cinema) is the organization’s annual highlight. It’s a blend of projections, video installations, professional interventions, masterclasses and thematic workshops that provides a platform for debate and networking between professionals and mixed audiences. It’s the closest to a film festival but where participating films are not in competition.
