CICLOP FESTIVAL 8

The CICLOP - Visual Theatre Festival was created in 2016, and 2023 will mark its 8th edition. It is organized by the Centre d’Investigació Escènica, currently the most important creation centre in the Balearic Islands, with the support of the Sineu TownCouncil, the Consell de Mallorca and the Government of Balearic Islands.

The festival usually takes place in the second weekend of September, and throughout the years, it has experienced exponential growth, both in terms of quality of the artistic proposals, audience figures and international projection. The CICLOP festival strives to be a showcase for the latest trends in physical and visual theatre, placing special interest in performances based on movement and physicality. At the same time, one of the festival’s main goals is to offer companies from the Balearic Islands and the rest of the world which work in the fields of visual and gestural theatre a professional meeting point; hence, our focus is on non-verbal performances, or performances where text isn’t the principal means of engaging with thea udience.

CICLOP also carries out social activities, with several programmes addressed to young people ('La nit canalla') and a theatre project with the participation of local inhabitants(Espectacle amb el poble). The six previous editions of the festival have received a great response from the audience: the average occupancy rate of each edition has been 90%,except the festival happening in 2021, which had a 100% occupancy rate.

Welcoming Croatia as a guest country in 2023 is the result not only of a wish to make Croatian performing arts known in Mallorca,but also the intention of continuing to foster the links C.IN.E. has with Croatian organizations and companies.
