The festival landscape of Region Västra Götaland

Region Västra Götaland, Sweden (Sweden)

The more than 200 festivals of Region Västra Götaland are as varied as the landscape: a barren coast, vast agricultural plains, magical forests, enchanting meadows, and many small, cozy towns. Lakes and waterways link everything together. A respectful approach to nature is characteristic of both everyday life and festivities.

In summer, music and other outdoor festivals flourish in both rural and urban areas. Autumn and spring are popular seasons for art trails and food festivals. When the winter darkness creeps in, light festivals show the way to several places of the region, and during winter we like to warm ourselves with indoor festivals of literature, film, theatre, music, dance and circus.

Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city, is the region's capital. Art and culture festivals of all kinds take place here, all year round. This is also the home of Sweden’s national orchestra, Göteborgs Symfoniker.
