DPP | Portimão Percussion Days 2024

Brief SynopsisDPP | Portimão Percussion Days is a music festival held annually since 2020 in Portimão, western Algarve, Portugal, with a strong motus on the decentralisation of performance arts. With a careful commitment to the promotion of Percussion as a universal artistic and musical language of union and dialogue, DPP brings together local, national and international musicians who dwell around the fantastic world of percussion, promoting concerts, masterclasses, workshops and parades, during 3 intense days.

DPP is always held in the city of Portimão and in constant articulation with public facilities, including the Big Auditorium and Black Box of TEMPO – Municipal Theatre of Portimão, Auditorium of the Museum of Portimão, Jardim 1º de Dezembro, Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense, and in dialogue with public spaces: Historical Center of Portimão, Riverside Area and Centre of Alvor.

Synopsis Last Edition (2024)

The 2024 Edition prioritised percussion as means for intercultural dialogue, within the 50 Years of Carnation Revolution celebrations (1974-2024), with artistic direction by Vasco Ramalho and Daniela Tomaz. DPP'24 brought together artists of national and international renown, such as Taranum Ensemble (Afghanistan National Institute of Music Portugal), Vasco Ramalho, Aldovino Munguambe, André Dez, Marisa Paulo, Tiago Manuel Soares and Andrés “Pancho” Tarabbia. These artists entered into dialogue with the community and artists living in the Algarve region, e.g. the students of the Integrated Music Course and the Professional Jazz Course of the Bemposta School Group, Portimão; the young percussionists of the Algarve Contemporary Percussion Group who premiered DPP‘24’s musical commission to composer Filipe Fernandes, and the Algarve Camerata Chamber Music Ensemble, under the direction of conductor João Rocha.

DPP’24 is a project by O Corvo and Raposa, co-financed by the Portuguese Republic / Directorate-General for the Arts and having the Municipality of Portimão as a strategic partner.
