25th EUROPEAN CULTURAL DAYS 2021: EUROPE – A PROMISE
Following the cancellation of the 2020 European Cultural Days (EKT:2020) as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the organisers are now preparing for a new attempt. From 2nd to 16th May 2021 artists from Europe and beyond will explore the topic “Europe – a Promise”. The corona crisis has revealed to us dramatically how fragile the idea of a united and open Europe is in times of crisis. It is therefore all the more important to take a close look at the promises Europe stands for – the original theme for the European Cultural Days 2020 – and to seek catalysts for a new Europe based on solidarity and cooperation.
What does Europe stand for? What hopes do we place in our continent? Has Europe doubted its own promise in its handling of the pandemic? Is Europe willing to strive for the acknowledgement and implementation of basic rights and human rights and to stand against the constant threats to these? Is Europe drifting apart after 70 years of growing closer together politically and especially culturally? Our aim is to examine these questions together and, through art and culture, to shed light on the topic “Europe – A Promise”.
