The International Music Festival of Póvoa de Varzim (FIMPV) was founded in 1979 by pianist Sequeira Costa and the company Sopete - Casino da Povoa de Varzim. Since 1994, the City Council of Póvoa de Varzim and the Ministry of Culture of Portugal became the main institutional supporters, leaving the organization to Pró-Music Association of Póvoa de Varzim - cultural nonprofit association.
Important soloists and ensembles have been invited by FIMPV.
