FIT International Festival of Theater and contemporary scene

The International Theatre Festival, now known as FIT, was founded in Lugano in 1977. The festival's artistic evolution over the last decade has led it to distinguish itself on the artistic scene and to qualify as a European showcase of contemporary, performing and innovative creation. It is held annually and takes place during the first 10 days of October. Many activities take place during the festival, in addition to the programming also side events (meetings with artists, advanced training workshops, projects dedicated to young people, mediation for the public, the festival radio, the publishing project, together with the LAC, Sguardi sul contemporaneo.

Throughout the year, the festival develops a production and programming activity of special projects. It is part of Expedition Suisse, a network of Swiss theatres, and other networks such as Premio Schweiz, Kikcs!, and Reso. Every year, the FIT reaffirms the need to place itself in a perspective of knowledge, theoretical and practical elaboration of what we simply call the 'contemporary scene. A plural gaze that promotes languages and poetics, that detects traces of artistic and design modalities outside customs and conventions in order to propose it to an increasingly broad and transversal audience. A festival that becomes a container and content of shows, performances, and urban projects and constantly reconstructs itself by projecting visions of change.
