Haapavesi Folk Music Festival is a 3-day music event that was founded in 1989. The programme of the festival consists of high quality Finnish and international folk music and world music, alongside with some classical, jazz, pop and cross-genre acts. Majority of the performers at the festival come from the Finnish folk music scene but international acts are also an essential part of the programme.
Programme includes also seminars and the festival week starts with acclaimed Folk Courses which are taught by several top folk musicians.Teachers at the Folk Course come from several different countries. The course offers an opportunity to learn about different music cultures while also providing first-class instruction on various instruments.
