Little Islands Festival 2019
Little Islands Festival continues its journey to remote, special destinations, presenting a wide range of audiovisual artworks. After the two-day warm-up festival on Amorgos island, where the audience saw video art installations, performances, animation, short films, open discussions and live vj sets, we are coming back to the mystic island of Sikinos on 23 to 25 August.
Follow us to ‘Kastro’, the fortified settlement of the 15 th century in the heart of Sikinos, to explore the concept of Identity, personal and collective, through digital routes, performances and open air screenings, with free admission as always.
On Friday 23 August, the festival hosts ‘Thirean Matins’ (1967), a unique documentary about Santorini island, with a live introduction performance byKonstantinos Chatzinikolaou, who is going to share thoughts and words about this cinematic miracle by Sfikas and Tornes. The evening continues with a video art tour around the settlement with open air screenings of works from 19 countries and it’s completed with live electronics and visuals, and the performance ‘The Shape of Sound’ by Lyrical Phosphorus.
On Saturday 24 August we start with short films screenings by award-winningGreek artists. We continue with the video art tour and then we gather at Saint John square to take part in the interactive performance ‘Who am I?’ by Isabelle Derigo & Salvatore Cultrera. The impressive mapping ‘Liquid Element’ by GlitchA team closes the performance, bringing the ruins next to the square back to life.
On the last evening of the festival, Sunday 25 August, young and older alike, we gather for the animation screenings and we watch the award-winning stereoscopic AENIGMA, by Antonis Doussias and Aris Fatouros, which was inspired by Theodoros Pantaleon’s paintings. The artists will be there to answer to all our questions. After that, the oldest Greek feature film to be saved, the burlesque comedy ‘Villar’s Adventures’ (1924) is accompanied by on the spot music by Yannis Lianos. Last but not least, at the closing ceremony of the festival, ‘Future is Yours’, a live dj & vj set by loopool team, fills the place with rhythm and images.
Three days under the starry sky of Sikinos island, full of stories about Identity, cultural and personal. Personal and collective perceptions, beliefs and emotions that after all define more than any external condition the world we have chosen to live in.
We are waiting for you!
All the events have free admission for the audience.
