Savonlinna Opera Festival 2024

The Savonlinna Opera Festival 2024 will be packed with opera. Deeply moving music, iconic stories and the magic of theatre – great works, each of which has changed history. Whichever you choose, you will see something remarkable.

Powerful stories are interpreted by powerful singers. These will include some of Finland’s and the world’s finest – including Karita Mattila, who will sing her first ever operatic role at the Opera Festival.

Verdi’s magnificent Nabucco is a new production at the festival. The programme also includes Lohengrin and Don Giovanni, Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater and the Czech classics Káťa Kabanová and The Bartered Bride.

The month-long festival is held in Olavinlinna, a towering medieval castle by Finland’s largest lake Saimaa.This creates a uniquely dramatic ambience for its 70,000 visitors.
