Powerful stories are interpreted by powerful singers. These will include some of Finland’s and the world’s finest – including Karita Mattila, who will sing her first ever operatic role at the Opera Festival.
Verdi’s magnificent Nabucco is a new production at the festival. The programme also includes Lohengrin and Don Giovanni, Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater and the Czech classics Káťa Kabanová and The Bartered Bride.

The month-long festival is held in Olavinlinna, a towering medieval castle by Finland’s largest lake Saimaa.This creates a uniquely dramatic ambience for its 70,000 visitors.
