The festival is held in honour of Bedřich Smetana, a native of Litomyšl. It presents mainly opera shows, but features also other forms of art. The festival site is right on the premises of the magnificent Litomyšl Castle, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage since 1999. Main events take place in the second castle courtyard that boasts excellent acoustics and unique retractable roofing. Apart from unique performances held at the festival, the town of Litomyšl offers an opportunity to experience magnificent genius loci.
