Alte Kameraden

The International Meeting of Wind Orchestras Alte Kameraden is an event which to make the works of Carl Teike, an excellent composer of march music – the so-called “king of marches” – and former citizen of the town Landsberg/ Warthe (today’s Gorzów Wielkopolski) known to the public. He is the composer of one of the most well-known marches in the world – “Alte Kameraden”.
For 120 years this march is in the repertoires of almost every wind orchestra. It was played during the opening ceremonies and the final events of Olympic Games, at the Broadway in New Year, the Champs-Elysee in Paris, in London during the coronation in 1937 and for the Queen Elisabeth in 1959.

Carl Teike worked in Landsberg/ Warthe (Gorzów Wlkp.) and composed about a dozen of marches. He was buried at the cementary in Landsberg.

In 2007 there was inaugurated a commemorative plaque in honour of Carl Teike at his house ( formerly Heinersdorferstrasse, today’s ulica Kosynierów Gdyńskich) in Gorzów Wielkopolski (formerly Landsberg/ Warthe).

The orchestras taking part in the International Meeting of Wind Orchestras present music pieces of different kinds – march, folk, pop, film music and classical music. Each year take part about 8 orchestras from Poland and Europe. They present a high level of artistic skills. and abroad.

The Meeting has competition nature. Within the framework of Alte Kameraden there will take place two competitions: a presentation of a march’s program during a parade and a presentation of a general concert’s program.

Thanks to the International Meeting of Wind Orchestras Alte Kameraden in Gorzów Wielkopolski takes place a development of cooperation of orchestras situated in different European cities.

Organizer is the City Cultural Centre in Gorzów Wielkopolski.
