10th edition Giortes Rokkas 2023

“Giortes Rokkas” celebrate ten years of meeting and cultural action; the annual August fullmoon event that evolved into a rich "handmade" fiesta in the mountainous hinterland of Chania, Crete, Greece. This year “Giortes Rokkas” will take place from August 13th to 31st at the Rokka archaeological site and in the squares and courtyards of the houses of the villages Rokka and Kera villages, atthe mountain of Kissamos. In the opening concert Marina Satti presents a special musical spectacle by (13/8), deeply influenced by traditional origins, and elaborately combined with modern musical trends. The two-day dance-theatrical event "Kera Mia Skini" (19-20/8) will follow, and many parallel activities and workshops for all ages will also take place throughout the festival: photography, stone carving, percussion, breakdance, visual arts and oral history. Giortes Rokkas will culminate on August 31, under the light of the August - blue - full moon, with one of the most popular works of the 20th century's contemporary repertoire, the cantata "Carmina Burana" by the German composer and music educator Karl Orff in the spectacular archaeological site of Rokka.
