14th WORLD CHOIR FESTIVAL ON MUSICAL & COMPETITION

Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece and it has an easy accessibility by all means of transport from all over Europe. It is a sea-front city in Northern Greece with a high historical past of more than 2300 years, revealed by the presence of many cultural monuments from all historical periods. The city is a really attractive destination that can combine its past with the presence since the visitors can admire the archaeological treasures with a beautiful tour as well as the outstanding natural beauties in the nearby idyllic beaches.

In Thessaloniki, every year at the beginning of May, the World Choir Festival on Musical is held, organized by “Korais” Association and Choir. It is a unique cultural Festival, due to its thematic and innovation, not only in Greece but also in the international choral field. The Festival has a Competitive and Non Competitive part and it is addressed to all types of amateur choirs and vocal ensembles. The Choirs that stand out in the Competition, having been evaluated by an International Jury, receive honorary and remarkable money awards.

The Jury consisting of distinguished experts in choral music provide the high quality of the results. Choirs are also awarded by Audience awards since there is a voting procedure at the end of each concert. The Festival takes place at the Concert Hall of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Ηall having a capacity of 1.054 seats. The entrance is free to the public, because the Festival is offered to all that love choral music. The Official Opening Ceremony takes place at the Municipal Garden Theatre of the city. It is the welcome meeting Ceremony for all participating choirs and the local friends of choral art. The Competition part as well as the whole Festival are presented in Greek and English.The Festival is under the auspices of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. During their stay, the choirs can combine their participation in the Festival with their acquaintance to the rich historical routes and the enjoyment of the vibrant life of the city. They also have the pleasure to live unique moments with participants from other countries and cultures, the opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge and to share emotions that the choral music can offer.

The Organizing Committee attaches great importance to the excellent hospitality of its visitors. For this reason, it takes good care of the fine and safe stay of the participating choirs and the invited people throughout the Festival, aiming at the pleasant stay of its guests.
