Alumbra Light Fest

02 Dec 2024 - 08 Dec 2024
Granada, Spain

Alumbra is an exhibition that relates contemporary artistic creation based on new audiovisual technologies with architectural and heritage spaces, with a view to their dissemination and promotion. The word alumbra, which refers to the triple meaning of the verb alumbrar: "to give light and clarity to something or someone", "to illuminate or inspire something" and "to dispel darkness and error, to convert them into knowledge and wisdom", fits in completely with the spirit of the exhibition. This term, which etymologically comes from the Latin "illumināre", to fill with clarity or light, also has a phonetic interplay with Alhambra, the name of the famous monumental complex always linked to the city of Granada. The fundamental characteristics that articulate Alumbra are: the use of the most innovative current art within contemporary audiovisual experimentation (videomapping, interactive art, light installations, digitally created music), the intervention through light, image and sound on the spaces in which the exhibition takes place, and the generation of new experiences in these spaces.

In 2021, the first Alumbra exhibition took place in Granada, digital art and heritage in reference spaces of the architectural and landscape heritage of the University of Granada, with artists such as Maotik or Murcof and Sergi Palau. At the initiative of the Miga Cultural Association and the company Item Media, Alumbra Sacromonte was presented in November 2022, with the installation Puerta al Sacromonte in the TAC Pavilion, which was a great success among family audiences, and the concert by Kangding Ray and Jaime Beltrán in the Chumbera Auditorium, which was attended by a more specialised audience eager to find avant-garde proposals in Granada's cultural offer. At the end of 2022 Alumbra grew and strengthened with its edition dedicated to Carmen de los Mártires, an unprecedented, ephemeral and unique experience that were enjoyed on 16 and 17 December.
