Art without Borders

23 Oct 2020 - 01 Nov 2020
Reykjavík, Iceland

Art Without Borders is an annual festival in Reykjavik, Iceland.
It showcases art from all art forms by disabled artists and supports collaborations between artists. The festival was founded in 2003 during the European Year of People with Disabilities.

Art Without Borders is the only venue in Iceland that focuses entirely on the artistic creation of disabled artists and is absolutely unique within the Icelandic art scene. Every year the festival gains more attention, interest and respect. It an essential platform where new opportunities and paths can open up to encourage equality within our society, through art.

The festival collaborates with individual artists, organisations and groups, art museums, theatre groups and musicians. The festival has initiated discourse on the images of disabled artists within the art community and the art of disabled people, in collaboration with the University of Iceland, the National Museum, Reykjavik Art Museum and the Nordic House. Art Without Borders emphasizes that the art of disabled artists is valued equally within the arts scene as the art of non-disabled artists.

Art Without Borders was awarded the Múbrjótur award in 2009 and was nominated for the ÖBÍ Incentive Prize in 2011, both in Iceland. In 2012, Art Without Borders received the Reykjavik City Human Rights Award.
