ARTONOV Festival

The ARTONOV Festival is inspired by the international movement of Art Nouveau, both for its philosophy as for its implementation it offers an opportunity to discover the city’s art nouveau and art deco heritage and other buildings of remarkable architecture at a number of different venues. In some of the most beautiful houses in Brussels, established and emerging artists present a selection of music, dance, theatre, circus, visual arts, and fashion.

This sixth edition will take place from 4 to 11 October 2020 in Brussels. This year’s central theme is "What the day owes to the night". The artists of this edition seize the light and enchant it, revealing a world of multiple transparencies. In doing so, shadow and reflection become visible too. Indeed, in ancient Greek those two concepts are often represented by the same word, “skia”. Shadow and reflection. Projection of the form, without matter or contour, depending on multiple variables: movement, the source of light or the object itself. The shadow represents darkness, hell, but also the invisible world and the depth sought after by the mystic. It is uncertain and moving. Cartoons and cinema play with it, and so do we. The desire for shadow haunts us because it allows light to break through.

Since the very first day our priority has been to create a friendly and intimate atmosphere where audience and performers feel welcome. We’re happy to have been able to make this edition happen in these difficult times, while maintaining the taste for artistic adventure that’s always been in the festival’s DNA and the will to support the artists. We strongly believe art has the capacity to create worlds, generate emotion and make a difference. Our team has worked out the smallest details to comply with the health safety measures and be able to welcome you safely (respect of the ‘bubbles’, flow management, limited room capacity, etc.). We keep adapting these measures from week to week according to the most recent decisions.
