Cabanyal Íntim Fest

Cabanyal Íntim Fest is an urban and proximity festival, organized by Francachela Teatro company, focusing on intimate, close and experimental scenic arts. Since 2011, it has been celebrated annually, during two consecutive weeks, inside the houses and other unique spaces of the Cabanyal, an old fishing district of Valencia that, until the end of 2015, was threatened of demolition by the municipal urban speculation, with its consequent expansion, marginalization and active degradation.

Designed for all audiences, our festival offers new scenic experiences by drawing an itinerary for the neighborhood with contemporary shows from various disciplines: theater (text, objects, gestures), dance, circus, performance, clown, music, underground cabaret, video art, dramatic poetry, puppets... with the aim of fostering a dialogue between the emerging theatrical culture and the idiosyncrasy of a neighborhood, its history and its population.

The proposals that we present go beyond the conventional shapes and languages, representing themselves in houses altruistically ceded by the same neighbors. Rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms or terraces are transformed for a few days, in the setting of the most daring and innovative stages.

In each edition a slogan, always in accordance with our social reality, is raised on which companies create their plays, such desire, transformation, future, migration or memory.

The program is divided into long and short pieces created according to the motto proposed; Territori Performance, wich welcomes the most experimental and avant-garde proposals; free parallel activities for all audiences, such as workshops, meetings, interventions, guided tours or presentations; and our own productions.

In our commitment to offer intimate and proximity programming, the shows are aimed at small groups of spectators. Depending on the size of the spaces and the artistic proposals, the capacity varies from 3 to 4 spectators to the twentieth. Cabanyal Íntim Fest, due to its characteristics and objectives, is a pioneering festival in the Valencian Community.
