Crete International Potery Festival

The Crete International Poetry Festival is a new institution whose main aim is to establish itself as an art institution on the largest island of Greece in Crete, and over time in many other cities of the country. The festival has a nationwide scope as it aims to promote and promote Greece's cultural heritage (literature, oral and written tradition, dances, hospitality, tourism, local products, etc.). The participation of world-renowned poets as well as its association with major Festivals around the world has given the Poetry Festival its international dimension since its first organization.The first event of the festival (September 19-21, 2019) was attended by internationally renowned poets, such as 20-year-old President of European Writers Jochen Kelter (Germany-Switzerland), as well as two great poets of Greek poetry Titοs Patrios and Katerina Angelaki-Rooke who were honored for their poetry achievements. The 2nd International Poetry Festival will take place from 6th to 9th May 2020 with many activities of poetic and social sensibility with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry of Tourism and in cooperation with the Region of Crete. Among the world-renowned poets invited to the festival will be: Christopher Merill: Award-winning American Poet, University and Former US Counselor Barack Obarama. Pia Tadfrup: Denmark's most translated contemporary poet and member of the Academy of Arts and Literature. He has been honored with the "small" Nobel Prize for Literature. Gerhard Falkner: The most important German postwar poet with many and important prizes. The poets will have the opportunity to visit the archaeological site of Knossos, the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and other Museums on the island, read their poems in schools and universities, as well as in many other interesting public places and talk to the public. All events and visits are open to the public with free admission.
