Cumplicidades - International Contemporary Dance Festival of Lisbon

CUMPLICIDADES configures itself as a new event in each edition. Inviting someone always different to project/design the national participations ensures a renewed glance. The complicity of diverse partnerships in its hosting fosters plurality and an urban dynamic that aims at reaching an audience that is also plural.

In 2023, in addition to the programme established by Luiz Antunes were added proposals selected from an open call for artists of foreign origin residing in Portugal. The pandemic period did not benefit the visibility of recently established professionals, resulting in an attempt to present creations from diverse labour and aesthetic paths across several continents. The whole is reinforced by the proposal aimed at children and young people, and by the articulation with regular training for EIRA professionals. CUMPLICIDADES marks contemporary dance in the city’s imagination, claiming that territory, although aware of the growing interdisciplinary practice and hybridity. It defends the heterogeneity of interventions in the public forum, however it establishes itself within dance in order to better question its borders, its definition.
