Meakusma Festival

29 Aug 2024 - 01 Sep 2024
Eupen, Belgium

Meakusma is an event organiser and record label from Eupen in the east of Belgium. The first Meakusma events were organised in 2004, the record label side of things started operations in 2008. In 2016, the first Meakusma Festival was organised, with further editions in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022. (In 2020 and 2021, the festival could not take place, first because of Covid-19 and then because of the floods in East Belgium.) A new edition of the festival is planned for 2024.
Musically, Meakusma stands for concerts and club nights, featuring both experimental music and dance music. This philosophy is also very apparent in the label's releases which are carefully curated and feature a broad spectrum of styles and spheres. Meakusma has always been very prone to collaborate with other organisations, having worked together with many institutions, event organisers, record labels, etc. from Belgium and from all over the world. The beginning of 2022 saw the birth of Eupen-based online community radio station Studio Néau, operated by Meakusma and offering a wide variety of shows done by people from the Meakusma universe as well as giving chances to people from Eupen to gain some valuable radio making experience. Workshops are also offered, mainly in Eupen and mostly with an artistic and musical focus.
In 2017, The Guardian named the Meakusma Festival one of the ten best festivals in Europe. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2017/apr/03/10-best-music-festivals-europe-spain-france-croatia
