Musica Mundo 2024

Presented since 2018, Musica Mundo Festival is one of the few world music festivals in the Netherlands!

The focus this year is on artists from African countries. On Friday, SAHAD from Senegal opens the programme. From different parts of Africa come Bamba Wassoulou Groove, DJAM with Bounaly Traoré, Jocelyn Balu & Borumba and Kiala & the Afroblaster. In addition, there is a high rock content. Masada brings percussion rock with Latin rhythms, Korishanti mixes pop music with cheerful Italian folk, Majaz mixes rock and jazz with the khaleeji music of the Arabian Peninsula. And Lazywall will blow you away with their impressive Moroccan alt rock!

Like last year, there are two groups from Amersfoort, Wilskracht and Slagwerk KAMV, who have renewed their programme for this festival with worldly repertoire and collaborate with artists from Syria, China, Surinam and Turkey. On Sunday afternoon the Musica Mundo Orchestra will premiere new artists. The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra and Thijs Borsten have invited the Turkish opera star Aylin Sezer and the Moroccan singer Zainab Afailal for a unique fusion of classical music from various cultures. This year there are two parades. On Thursday, June 27, percussion group Bloco033 will travel through the streets and squares of the center with Brazilian samba and on Saturday, fanfare Remork & Karkaba will travel with Moroccan Gnawa musicians and dancers from Neptunusplein to the festival grounds from 12:00. The Musica Mundo Meeting on Friday afternoon brings festival programmers together under the theme ‘The position of a festival in a cultural ecosystem, lessons from Dakar & Amersfoort’ with young local artists, programmers and special guest Sahad Sarr. New to the programme are the DJs who play on the square between and after the acts and an afterparty with an Afro jam session in Fluor that continues into the night.
