sibenik dance festival

22 Jul 2024 - 27 Jul 2024
Sibenik, Croatia

The International Šibenik Dance Festival (SDF) is considered to be the contemporary dance festival with the most beautiful venues in Europe. Over the past decade, since its first edition in 2011, we have welcomed numerous dancers, choreographers, and companies to our amazing stages.

SDF brought to Šibenik’s audiences some of the most unforgettable European and world contemporary dance performances. Among the many, SDF presented the works of established choreographers such as Rami Be'er, Andonis Foniadakis, Xie Xin, Masha Kolar, Maciej Kuzminski and others. We could not have provided any of the opportunities for them to perform on these stages without the steadfast support of the City of Šibenik, the whole community, our partner – The Fortress of Culture - and the Croatian Ministry of Culture.

SDF provides space for networking since it has been followed by international festival curators, national press, critics, renowned artists and passionate audience. Its programme is rich and diverse, open to the infinite shades of contemporary dance.

The main programme is presented at the European top venues, the medieval fortresses St Michael’s and Barone. Downtown show, SDF off programme, is intended to youth companies and pre professionals.

Additional events, such as the SDF intensive seminars, master classes and workshops are intended especially for young dancers and dance students, offering plenty of opportunities for their artistic development, the opportunity to improve their technique and receive new creative input.

“Young emerging artists” a SDF fringe section dedicated to discover, support and promote the work of emerging choreographers, dance students, youth companies and performers.

SDF meetings and conferences - Beyond hosting artists from around the world and showcasing their annual achievements, the Šibenik Dance Festival serves as a platform for encounters and the exchange of experiences among numerous professionals in the field of dance. In an effort to counteract the spontaneous emergence of 'mass exclusion of young people from current events in a world of conflicts, fears, and inequalities, the Šibenik Dance Festival consistently organises panel discussions and roundtable sessions on various socially engaged topics as part of its accompanying programme.
